Frequently asked questions

1. What is SimpliTRACE?

SimpliTRACE is a Web application, which means that it is computer software accessible by connecting to the Internet, developed to manage traceability data from Quebec.

The SimpliTRACE application was designed by ATQ and will be implemented to replace its current data management system with a more efficient, state-of-the-art system.

The launch of this application will simplify the process of collecting, transmitting and managing information in the ATQ database.

Accessible through a secure and user-friendly interface, SimpliTRACE will allow all Quebec producers and stakeholders in the cattle, sheep and deer sectors to access their online ATQ file and to electronically file declarations.

2. When can I use SimpliTRACE to access my online ATQ file?

SimpliTRACE is available since March 2016. We invite you to visit our website to find out more about the functioning of this application.

3. Is it mandatory to register with SimpliTRACE?

Registering with SimpliTRACE is not mandatory. However, if you want to access your ATQ file online to transmit declarations, you must register with ATQ Customer. It should be noted that all users of the ATQDirect software will have to use SimpliTRACE to produce their declarations since this software will no longer be available. For more information about the compatibility of ATQ declaration software, refer to the Software Compatibility section.

Please note that if you do not register with SimpliTRACE, you may continue to send your declarations by the following methods:

  • Fax, post or email (by using paper forms)
  • Telephone
  • Use of compatible software

4. What are the advantages of SimpliTRACE?

SimpliTRACE allows you to access your online ATQ file and to file your declarations. Designed to make data entry easier, the system’s forms provide guidance tools which aim to simplify the declaration process. Browsing the pages of the system provides access to information clearly and visibly posted in lists and tables.

Advantages

  • Access your animal inventory
  • Simplify declarations for tag installation, and the arrival and departure of your animals
  • View the details of your ear tag orders
  • Search for information relevant to your premises, animals and declarations
  • Eliminate registration errors
  • Reduce time wasting
  • Minimize paperwork

5. Who is the SimpliTRACE application designed for?

For all producers and stakeholders in the cattle, sheep and deer sectors in Quebec. If a file has been opened at ATQ under the name of your farming operation, you are a potential user of SimpliTRACE. We invite you to therefore take advantage of this system by registering now.

6. Will the launch of SimpliTRACE have an impact on traceability data that I must declare?

Although the launch of SimpliTRACE does not lead to any modifications in the Regulation respecting the identification and traceability of certain animals in Quebec, some new rules for data transmission are now in effect.

In such cases, to guarantee best practices in terms of data management, some changes have been made especially regarding information to be sent as part of the following declarations:

  • Tag application
  • Tag replacement
  • Transfer of animals

Software Compatibility

INFORMATION RELATIVE TO THE USE OF SimpliTRACE Express AND FormCLIC

FormCLIC software is replaced with a new data import application as a complement to SimpliTRACE and compatible with RFID readers.

This new application, called SimpliTRACE Express allows the transfer of identification numbers captured using an electronic stick reader over to the SimpliTRACE application. It should be noted that a SimpliTRACE account must be opened to use this new application.

Easy to install, SimpliTRACE Express has been designed for use on a personal computer (PC).  Once the stick reader is connected, the application collects the data stored inside and transfers it to SimpliTRACE.  A free download from the ATQ website, the data import application is compatible with all stick readers sold by ATQ.

The following table indicates the status as well as the nature of the impact of the launch of SimpliTRACE Express.

For additional information about how SimpliTRACE Express  function, contact ATQ Technical Support at 1 866 270-4319 #3.

Data Transmission

 IMPORTANT

Transmitting your traceability data

Since March 14, 2016, all mandatory information as per the Regulation respecting the identification and traceability of certain animals, sent as an electronic file or with SimpliTRACE, must comply with the data format required by the system.

If the data being transmitted are incomplete or contain an error, this information will not be recorded and an error message from the system will indicate the nature of corrections that must be made.

Since March 14, 2016, with the launch of the SimpliTRACE application, some new data transmission rules are in effect. These new requirements, that aim to improve the quality of data sent in to the ATQ system, will have an impact on certain types of information that need to be communicated when collecting and transferring data.

The implementation of the new rules will not modify under any circumstances the obligations of animal owners or custodians as stated in the Regulation respecting the identification and traceability of certain animals in Quebec.

The rules that will be coming into effect result from an analysis and optimization initiative of the Quebec traceability database, completed by Agri-Traçabilité Québec (ATQ) in collaboration with the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) and La Financière agricole du Québec (FADQ).

Important: Please note that in the SimpliTRACE application, if the mandatory information is not sent, or is not sent in a valid format, the processing of a declaration or a file will not be completed.
